This unit is designed to introduce new starters to the water industry.of competency describes the outcomes required to working effectively in the water industry. The unit provides an overview of the industry and how their organisation fits in and links to the community.

NWP209B Use maps, plans, drawings and specifications

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge for operators to read and interpret maps, plans, drawings and specifications that relate to their workplace.

NWP210B Perform basic water quality tests

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge for operators who work in the field repairing pipes and or flushing distribution systems. The unit has a focus on the tests to ensure the maintenance of water quality after a maintenance or repair task. The tests include Chlorine Residual, Turbidity and pH, other tests can be included that are part of an organisations water quality regime.

NWP211B Use computerised systems

This unit is designed to provide the skill and knowldge for operators to utilise the computer systems of their organisation. The unit focus on the intranet, SCADA, maintenance systems and basic word processing and spreadsheets.

NWP212B Operate basic flow control and regulatory devices

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge for new operators into the industry on how to operate the range of valves, flow and pressure control devices found within their own water distribution system. The unit will cover all types of routine valves including hydraunts, basic PRV’s, air valves, sluice valves and non-return valves.

NWP218B Perform sampling

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required of new operators to collect, store and send off routine water samples. The unit can be used for people who work in urban and irrigation systems as well as dams.

NWP227B Control vegetation on the organisation’s site

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to control vegetation on the organisation’s site by inspection, identification and treatment of weeds, plants and shrubs. The ability to safely plan and undertake the work, including the safe handling of chemicals and equipment, is vital to successful performance.

NWP259B Operate, monitor and conduct minor maintenance on pump stations

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to operate and maintain pump stations in water and wastewater systems, according to organisational operating procedures. This unit supports field staff with a specific responsibility for ensuring that pump stations operate according to organisational requirements. This may include minor maintenance tasks such as gland adjustment, packing replacement and the replacement of some fittings.

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to perform inspection, regulation, operation, measurement and reporting of groundwater systems. This unit supports field and operational staff with a specific responsibility for inspecting and checking groundwater sources

NWP410C Coordinate and monitor asset construction and maintenance

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to coordinate and monitor asset construction and maintenance, including site management and associated commissioning and post-commissioning activities. This unit supports staff with a specific responsibility for ensuring that asset construction and maintenance activities are performed and completed in compliance with all relevant organisational and statutory requirements. The level of responsibility may vary according to the size and scope of the individual project.

NWP417B Coordinate and monitor groundwater system usage

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to coordinate and monitor the use of groundwater as a source of water supply ensuring that Ground Water Management Plan (GWMP) performance measures are met, environmental issues are addressed and a source of supply is maintained. This unit supports staff with a specific responsibility for ensuring that groundwater system usage complies with the GWMP and that assets and processes comply with organisational and statutory requirements. The level of responsibility may vary according to the size, scope and complexity of the groundwater system.

NWP432A Contribute to continuous improvement of quality systems

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to understand tand implement quality systems in the water industry and to identify opportunites for improvement in quality outcomes for the organisation. The unit supports water industry technicians or supervisors with a responsibility for the implementation of quality systems.

 

BSBMGT402A Implement Operational Plan

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to implement the operational plan by monitoring and adjusting operational performance, producing short term plans for their team or department, planning and acquiring resources and providing reports on performance. The unit supports frontline managers who are actively engaged in planning activities to achieve the measureable, stated objectives of the team and the organisation.
