NWP209B Use maps, plans, drawings and specifications

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge for operators to read and interpret maps, plans, drawings and specifications that relate to their workplace.

NWP210B Perform basic water quality tests

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge for operators who work in the field repairing pipes and or flushing distribution systems. The unit has a focus on the tests to ensure the maintenance of water quality after a maintenance or repair task. The tests include Chlorine Residual, Turbidity and pH, other tests can be included that are part of an organisations water quality regime.

NWP211B Use computerised systems

This unit is designed to provide the skill and knowldge for operators to utilise the computer systems of their organisation. The unit focus on the intranet, SCADA, maintenance systems and basic word processing and spreadsheets.

NWP218B Perform sampling

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required of new operators to collect, store and send off routine water samples. The unit can be used for people who work in urban and irrigation systems as well as dams.

NWP259B Operate, monitor and conduct minor maintenance on pump stations

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to operate and maintain pump stations in water and wastewater systems, according to organisational operating procedures. This unit supports field staff with a specific responsibility for ensuring that pump stations operate according to organisational requirements. This may include minor maintenance tasks such as gland adjustment, packing replacement and the replacement of some fittings.

NWP260A Monitor and report on water treatment processes

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to monitor and report on basic water treatment processes within community (potable) and industrial water treatment plants in urban and rural areas. The ability to operate the water treatment processes in compliance with relevant State or Territory legislation and/or Australian Drinking Water guidelines is vital to performance.

NWP261A Operate and maintain water treatment plant and equipment

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to operate basic water treatment processes within community (potable) and industrial water treatment plants in urban and rural areas. NWP268B Monitor, operate and report on chlorine-based disinfection systems

This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to monitor and operate chlorine disinfection systems and to report on process quality control. This unit supports field staff with a specific responsibility for ensuring that chlorine disinfection system processes comply with organisational requirements. For staff working on chlorine disinfection systems where liquefied chlorine gas is used, the unit - NWP277A Work safely with liquefied chlorine gas, is essential.

NWP271B Monitor, operate and report sedimentation processes

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to monitor and operate non-chemically assisted sedimentation processes and report on the sedimentation system performance and process quality control within domestic and industrial wastewater treatment plants or stormwater systems.

NWP273A Monitor, operate and report on ultra violet irradiation disinfection systems

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required required to monitor and operate ultra violet (UV) irradiation disinfection systems and to report on microbiological quality control.

NWP274A Monitor, operate and report on ozone treatment systems

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to monitor and operate ozone treatment systems and to report on process quality control.

NWP276A Monitor, operate and report on fluoridation systems

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to monitor and operate fluoridation systems and to report on water quality control.

NWP277A Work safely with liquefied chlorine gas

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to work safely with liquefied chlorine gas, including the safe changeover of gas containers, the safe transport, handling and storage of liquefied chlorine gas containers and implementation of emergency procedures.

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to perform basic monitoring, operation, control and measurement of water treatment plant processes and to report on water treatment plant system performance and process quality control. This unit supports the operational staff that may be required to perform monitoring, operation and control of water treatment plant, as an additional and occasional part of their normal job role.

This unit supports laboratory or field assistants with responsibility for testing samples from water and/or wastewater treatment processes.

NWP365A Identify and confirm blue green algae outbreaks.

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to identify and confirm outbreaks of blue green algae blooms. This unit supports operational staff with a specific responsibility for ensuring that water and/or wastewater quality conforms to organisational standards and complies with statutory requirements.

NWP366A Monitor, operate and control chloramination disinfection processes

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to monitor, operate and control chloramination processes; and to measure and report on system performance and process quality control. NWP406A Investigate and plan the optimisation of granual media filtration processes

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to evaluate and report on system performance and process quality control and may require the control and coordination of granular media filtration processes used in water and wastewater treatment. This unit supports technical staff with the responsibility for optimising granular media filtration processes in water and wastewater treatment plants.

NWP432A Contribute to continuous improvement of quality systems

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to understand tand implement quality systems in the water industry and to identify opportunites for improvement in quality outcomes for the organisation. The unit supports water industry technicians or supervisors with a responsibility for the implementation of quality systems.

 

NWP419B Coordinate and monitor river system usage

This unit is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to monitor and coordinate the operation of river systems and measure and report on river flows, including flood plains and the river environment.  This unit supports staff with a specific responsibility for ensuring that river system usage complies with organisational and statutory requirements.
